Sharon Byrne DrNP, CRNP, NP-C, AOCNP, CNE is an Advanced Practice Nurse at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, Division of Hematology/Oncology, Cooper Health System where she is a Nurse Practitioner for the Cancer Screening Project which is funded by NJCEED, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Avon Breast Cancer Foundation, and the American Cancer Society. She is also an Associate Professor and Co-chair of the Department of Nursing at The College of New Jersey.
Sharon received her DrNP in 2011 from Drexel University within the Educator/Practitioner tracks. She is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and as an Advanced Oncology Nurse Practitioner by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. She received a 2016 Roberta Scofield Memorial Certification Award from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC). Sharon is currently Coordinator –Elect of the Prevention/Detection SIG and takes over as Coordinator during the 2016 Congress and President of Sigma Theta Tau, Delta Nu chapter, International Honor Society of Nursing. Dr. Byrne received her BSN from LaSalle University, MSN and post-master’s certification in Healthcare Administration and as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Widener University. She is a member of various professional organizations and is a peer reviewer for Oncology Nursing Forum and Nurse Educator. She has published and presented nationally and regionally in areas of Breast Cancer Early Detection, Healthcare Avoidance, and Global Health. The latter is a passion and related to her volunteer status with Explorer Sans Frontiers where she serves as a primary care provider in communes surrounding Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Sharon’s research interests include factors influencing participation in breast and cervical cancer screening in minority and underserved populations.
